Renewal is a piece by Lucinda Hackett created after her backyard burned down in 2024 and overtime watched at plants grew back over the rubble. Lucinda uses soldering to create an organic metal frame encasing fragments of glass shattered in the fire.

“The Silence in Between” is an installation by Lucinda Hackett examine a broken relationship between a child and a parent set in the environment of her grandparent’s home. In this installation Lucinda tries to reconnect with her Polish culture, using found objects such as unused frames that never hung family photos, shattered nativity sets and old cropped childhood photos of her parent. This series of 5 paintings explores the anxiety and overwhelming feelings from being surrounded my uncleanliness and rotting food as well as exploring domestic roles in households in the absence of a parental figure. This series of work uses photos Lucinda’s childhood transferred onto paper accompanied by watercolour creating a withered and faded appearance. These photos are stringed together with childish illustrations vaguely resembling images from picture books. This work was the first in Lucinda Hackett’s journey to reconnect with her Polish culture and heritage after a loss of connection with one of her parents who had rejected that part of themselves. In this work Lucinda tires to reconnect by taking part in Polish traditions such as making a flower crown and painting eggs for Easter one of her core memories of Polish traditions. This is accompanied by a series of wooden plates resembling plates found in her grandparent’s home. Student work for Studio assignment for University.
